March 2011 Meeting Minutes

Here’s the news from Tuesday’s meeting……

It was brought to our attention that our president Pete Anderson has been ill and in the hospital. Let’s all wish him a speedy recovery and keep him in our prayers.

Another issue brought to our attention was the time of our meetings. It has been requested to move the meeting time up to 5:30 pm instead of 6:30. That way everyone can get home a little earlier. It was agreed by everyone so 5:30 will be our new start time.

After the business was taken care of, the meeting started out with a question about temporarily taking off the pop-up blocker on the IPad. The directions for that would be: Settings, Safari, pop-up blocker. Don’t forget to go back and reset the pop-up blocker when you are done.

A second question was : How to connect a computer to run through you TV screen. The easiest seemed to be the Apple TV box. Also there types of cables , DVI or HDMI, depending on whether you have HDTV or not. If you are needing that information, check with Strong Solutions. Those guys can always get you the right information.

A presentation on Compressing files, or creating Zip Files, was given. Great idea for files that have a large amount of information. Creating Zip files or Archive files as some computers call them, compresses information into a small file, saving space on your computer.

Some of the other topics discussed were: 1. The IDisk, and the other functions of MobileMe listed in the “Cloud”. Also 2. Encryption, for saving private or secure information you may need to save. 3.If you have an IPhone, and have lost it, you may want to use the “FindMe” feature of MobileMe. You can use that even if you are not signed up for MobileMe.

Well that about did it. Please let us know if there are any topics you would like to have presented. See you at the next meeting.

Sincerely, Linda, Secretary

February 2011 Meeting Minutes

Here’s the news from Tuesday’s meeting……

The meeting opened with some questions. How to reset your password for Apple ID. Go to iforgot.apple.com then answer the security questions.

What is the speed for your internet connection. Go to www.speedtest.com click “begin test”.

A question about Facetime, and has anyone used it. This was described as similar to Skype.

We had some visitors stop by. Jackson Holladay, and Rick Planos, some of the managers from the new Apple Store, came by to introduce themselves, tell a little about the new Spokane store, and answer questions about the store and their services. It was nice of them to come and get acquainted with our Mac Group.

Bill Jones gave a great presentation on the IWeb program. What a great feature to use for a basic web site for your business, for sharing Club information, or using a web page to share a vacation and photos with family and friends. There are many styles of format to choose from and several pages to use if needed. Seems to be a matter of dragging and dropping information and pictures that you might want to use. Once the Web page is formatted, one would need to choose a domain such as GoDaddy to publish it for web use. Or one can also use MobilMe. Another great feature is a link you can send to Facebook to let your friends know about your page. There could be a possibility that Google would add it to their search if you go to Google.com, webmaster tools, upload your page to them.

Bill also went over the use of Drop Box. This works like your own “shared folder” online. Go to www.dropbox.com to download the app, this creates a folder called “dropbox.” This is great if you are working on a committee, and both need to work on a presentation. Give that person the email address, or send the folder to their dropbox. I believe a certain amount of space use is free. This could also be useful if several family members were working on a Family History.

Thanks, Bill, for your hard work putting this presentation together for the Group. We all appreciate your effort.

Well that about did it. Please let us know if there is any topics you would like to have presented. See you at the next meeting,

Sincerely, Linda, Secretary
