March 2013 Meeting Minutes

Here’s the news from Tuesday’s meeting…

Sorry I missed last month’s meeting. Had a chance to go out of town for a long weekend, so that is what I did. I had a great time, but now it is time to get back to business.

This meeting was a great one for anyone that is musically inclined. I am not, but it was very interesting to see all the things one can do using the computer, and a special program, to compose, or rewrite their own music scores. Carl Johnson gave the presentation on Finale, located at which is a musical program to print out your own music. The program runs around $49.95, maybe a little less at Amazon. The program usually includes a CD and instruction booklet that comes in the mail. But once you order, you can usually download the program while you are waiting for the mail.

A question was asked about running Java updates. Seems the scare from information sent out a few months ago, was not what it seemed. It is OK to run Java on our systems.

Another question came up about back-up programs. Besides what is on our systems, it is best to have a portable program that plugs in, and updates quite often. Our great hosts upstairs at Strong Solutions can help with that. There is also a great App called Crash Plan that is an online storage site. So basically you would have 3 back-ups. One on the computer, one on an outside site, such as a disc or portable unit, and one online as a third back-up.

I know Spring is coming, and everyone is anxious for good weather, but please save your 3rd Tuesday each month to keep coming to our meetings. You won’t want to miss the exciting venues coming up.

Sincerely, Linda, Secretary
